THE Central Statistical Office (CSO) reported on Tuesday that Trinidad and Tobago’s annual inflation rate remained unchanged at 0.7% in February 2025, mirroring January’s figure.
The Inflation Rate for February 2025 measures the percentage change in the All Items Index for the month of February 2025 over February 2024. This was 0.7%.
Compared to last year’s period, when inflation stood at 0.8%, the rate reflects a marginal easing of price pressures.
The All Items Index, a key measure of consumer prices, rose slightly to 125.0 in February—up 0.1% from January’s 124.9. While food costs climbed, declines in alcohol, tobacco, and clothing prices helped temper overall inflation.
Food Costs Drive Limited Increase
The Food and Non-Alcoholic Beverages Index rose 0.3% month-over-month, driven by higher prices for vegetables like ochroes, melongene, and cucumbers, alongside staples such as fresh chicken, garlic, and white flour. Snack items like corn curls and tortilla chips also saw notable increases. However, sharp drops in tomatoes, Irish potatoes, onions, and fruits like oranges and plantains partially offset these rises.
Mixed Trends Across Sectors
Health-related expenses edged up 0.1%, while the Alcohol and Tobacco and Clothing and Footwear categories each declined by 0.1%. All other major sectors, including housing, transport, and education, showed no price changes for the month.
