SECURITY across the country’s prisons has been heightened due to the explosive and weapon find near Maximum Security Prison (MSP).
On Friday, National Security Minister Fitzgerald Hinds said several new layers of security elements and applications have also been put in place to deal with he described as “a seriously criminal and troubling matter.”
He was answering questions in Parliament asked by Member of Parliament for Oropouche East Dr Roodal Moonilal if there would be an urgent investigation following the discovery.
Hinds replied, “The Trinidad and Tobago Prison Service is conducting an internal investigation which includes reviewing any footage and with the support of intelligence briefings in and around the Golden Grove area where the explosives and weapons and other items were found. However, this is a seriously criminal and troubling matter and the Trinidad and Tobago Police Service, they are conducting their investigations to ascertain the culpability of any person or persons who might be responsible pursuing all leads in this regard, some of which I am unable to divulge for obvious reasons.”
He was further asked if one main integrated investigation should be conducted and Hinds replied they all share a common intelligence platform.
Hinds said the Prisons Service will conduct their internal investigation but the TTPS would conduct a more “ wholesome, far-reaching and deeper investigation.”
