LEADERS from all over the Caribbean gather in Trinidad and Tobago to celebrate the 5oth anniversary of the Treaty of Chaguaramas that gave rise to the Caribbean Community (CARICOM).
The opening ceremony was attended by Secretary General of the United Nations António Guterres who brought greetings on Monday at the Hyatt Regency in Port of Spain in Trinidad. That evening also saw leaders from the 15 members and five associates in a gala event.
It was the 45th Regular Meeting of the Conference of Heads of Government of CARICOM from July 3 to 5, 2023.
On Tuesday, there was a flag-raising ceremony at the Chaguaramas Convention Centre to commemorate the signing of the Treaty of Chaguaramas on July 4, 1973, by president of Guyana Forbes Burnham, Jamaica prime minister Michael Manley, prime minister of Barbados Errol Barrow and T&T prime minister Dr Eric Williams.
