Austria 3 vs 2 Holland

By Gerald Lutchman

IN the most dramatic game of the day, Austria showed a lot of mettle to defeat the Dutch.  Donyell Malen’s 6th minute own goal gave Austria the early lead. Marcel Sabitzer in the 80th minute
and Romano Schmid  in the 59th minute added the other two. In response Cody Gapko  in the 47th minute and Memphis Depay in the 75th minute scored for Holland.

This was a five-goal thriller with end-to-end action and open football. It was a very even game with 20 chances created and seven shots on target. Holland will still qualify for the next round as one of the best third place teams.

France 1 vs 1 Poland

Robert Lewandoski and Kylian Mbappe both scored penalties for their teams in order to secure a draw. This meant the points were shared and France had to settle for the runner up position in the group. This was Mbappe’s first Euro goal.

France were the dominant team with 19 shots and eight on goal compared to Poland’s ten with three on target. The second place means that France will encounter either Spain, Portugal or Germany on this side of the draw.

Denmark 0 vs 0 Serbia

In a boring affair both teams settled for a draw. Denmark go through on second, with fair-play advantage, only because of a yellow card given to a Slovenia coaching staff earlier in the tournament.
advantage.

Denmark and Slovenia both ended up on the same points and goal difference as fair play separated them and gave Denmark the edge.

England 0 vs 0 Slovenia

In a game where England dominated possession with 74% and 12 shots at goal, they still had to settle for a draw. England were the top of the group but this was a very unconvincing performance and the fans were very displeased.

The fans were very clear in their message to England – it is time to score goals. The three lions looked more like three house casts with this dismal display of uncreative football.
