SANGRE GRANDE has recorded the highest number of Covid-19 cases during the two weeks beginning from the end of August.
This according to Geographic Information Systems Manager at the Ministry of Health Roshan Seeramsingh, who spoke at the virtual presser on Wednesday.
He gave a breakdown of the cases presented in epidemiological weeks 34 (August 22 to 28) and 35 (August 29 to September 4).
Seeramsingh said the spread by county was relatively proportional in these two weeks.
He said, “Sangre Grande is a single community, which has recorded the highest number of cases but other areas such as Valencia and Barrackpore and Morvant also recorded over the period.”
In making reference to 2020, he said that county of interest was St George East but currently other counties had a high number of cases.
He said from two weeks before epi week 34 to week 35 Nariva/Mayaro had the lowest number of cases, while there were fluctuations in Victoria and Caroni as both “consistently recorded the highest number of cases for each of the given week.”
He during this period Tobago also recorded a high number of cases.
The GIS Manager said, “The area stretching from East Port-of-Spain to Arima, along the East West Corridor continues to record a high density of cases.
“As well as other population centres in minor cities and town such as Sangre Grande, San Fernando, Point Fortin, Diego Martin and Chaguanas in Trinidad, and areas such as Scarborough and other western parts of Tobago.”
Seeramsingh added that these areas recorded the highest density of cases for the period epidemiological week 34 and 35.
