WE don’t understand what we are saying about people and scarring them in their lives.
Trinidad and Tobago is a country that is extremely insensitive when it comes to those scars that we carry.
As a country, we need to be mindful of what is said and of the trauma we are causing our own people in the end. This type of treatment and behaviour can only cause more friction in the future, as we are seeing now in our very beautiful nation.
If we don’t recognise that, we are failing as a society to truly heal and move forward progressively. We are doomed with our heads and feelings held high. What should we want more – being mindful and placing important messages and positive talk to heal our society or a scarred society with hurt people?
I have been watching how our society is crumbling emotionally with all its ills. We have been experiencing it in recent years. Is this what we want for our children, or do we want a progressive society? That’s a question we all need to ask ourselves consciously. By finding the answers, we find a way for some form of hope in the future to come as well. This is what a scarred society should focus on, moving forward now as we speak, my friends. That is true progress we can achieve as a nation. For us to actually make any improvement, we need these types of things reflected in the policies coming from the government, trickling down to the private sector and the people at large. Because the entire country has to take that figurative bull by the horn to save ourselves and find some relief to our plight.
We are slowly killing ourselves by all of us not being thoughtful to our fellowmen. It seems that we consistently demonstrate the notion of loss against hope. Once hope is lost, this society will be a depressed one, with no hope given to us as a people. Is this the society we want to give to our people or, better yet, our children? And if it is, we have to question ourselves, seriously. Is this a progressive society?
And if we are not, then what kind of society are we saying we are? Find answers, and by finding answers, we find the solution to our own problems as well.
Scarred but carrying on through the pain of life, this is part of our nationhood. We have been stigmatised by all types of pains and tortures of life as a country, yes we are stigmatised! If we don’t recognise that we are somewhat scarred emotionally as a people, we will never truly understand what we are going through daily. For us to truly heal, we need to talk it out and deal with problems together. Only by us dealing with a problem, then we can treat it. If we sincerely want to be saved, we have to acknowledge this issue and deal with it. If we don’t, then we will consistently be spinning top in mud. Is this what we want? We have failed collectively, because if various social ills are showing up within our country, we are the ones to blame as society.
Everything considered, the word ‘inhuman’ has multiple meanings: lacking compassion/lacking qualities of sympathy, pity, warmth, or compassion. We have to ask ourselves collectively…are we inhumane? And if we are or if we are not, what are the results being seen in the country today, such as crime escalating. Did we collectively understand our people to know what was needed to guide them down a better path or did we not? This is a question we need to ask ourselves consciously because the proof is in the pudding… how is it eaten today? The results are showing!
Let us change because if we don’t, we are doomed to fail as we’re seeing now. Thank you for reasoning and tracking with me. Always remember, let’s take this issue and deal with it collectively, my friends…
