THE Elections and Boundaries Commission (EBC) has announced that 161 candidates will be contesting the April 28, 2025 General Election.
The 161 candidates represent 17 political parties who fielded candidates on Friday during the nomination process across Trinidad and Tobago.

This was confirmed via media release by the EBC after 9 pm on Friday evening.
Only one political party has fielded candidates for all 41 constituencies – the ruling People’s National Movement (PNM) led by Prime Minister Stuart Young.
Mickela Panday’s Patriotic Front fielded 37.
The United National Congress (UNC) led by Opposition Leader Kamla Persad-Bissessar has 34 candidates.
The National Transformation Alliance (NTA) headed by Gary Griffith is the only other political party to field more than 10 candidates with 17 persons filing nominations under the party’s name.

The All People’s Party (APP) led by Kezel Jackson fielded eight.
Two parties have three representative candidates: the Progressive Empowerment Party (PEP) led by Phillip Alexander and the Trinidad Humanity Campaign (THC) led by Marcus Ramkissoon.
Other political parties fielding two candidates are: the Congress of the People (COP), Innovative Democratic Alliance, National Coalition for Transformation, People’s Democratic Party (PDP) and the Tobago People’s Party (TPP).
Fielding one candidate are the parties Class Action Reform Movement, Movement for National Development, New National Vision, The Hyarima Movement and Unity of the People.
The UNC will be contesting the General Election as part of a Coalition of Interests with political parties PEP and COP along with the Oilfield Workers’ Trade Union (OWTU).

Leroy Richard Kelton George in Tobago West
