HOURS of rainfall on Monday leave several parts of Southwest Trinidad underwater and people marooned.
Residents of Gonzales Village and Guapo witnessed flooding while some were trapped indoors and others stranded on the roads.
Floods stretched as far as the Guapo Police Station and by the old Petrotrin pipe rack. Councillor for Techier\Guapo Lydon Harris said the Disaster Management Unit (DMU) had two teams in the areas making assessments.
One for Point Fortin to the Cap-De-Ville area and the other in Guapo where he joined the coordinator of the DMU and one of the officers to conduct reconnaissance, he said.
Harris said, “We are doing some reconnaissance and touching base with some of the burgesses that are affected to see how best we can help to get things done.”
Flooding was also reported in parts of Point Fortin, Dow Main Road, Rousillac and Egypt junction causing bumper-to-bumper traffic in these areas.
Meanwhile, Cedros Councillor Shankar Teelucksingh told AZP News there was one landslip which occurred at the 104.5-kilometre mark along the Southern Main Road in Cedros.
On Thursday, hundreds of residents in Caroni were also left stranded by the passage of a tropical wave.
The Trinidad and Tobago Meteorological Service (TTMS) stated the axis of the next tropical wave was expected to reach Trinidad and Tobago sometime on Tuesday into Wednesday.
