Flag Half-Mast for de la Bastide Funeral

ALL state and non-state agencies are advised that the National Flag of the Republic of Trinidad and Tobago is to be flown at half-mast today, Thursday in observance of the Official Funeral former chief justice Michael de la Bastide.

His funeral the Church of the Assumption, 70 Long Circular Road, Maraval, from 8.30 am to 1pm.

The National Flag should be flown at half-mast or half-staff, lowering the flag by its own depth from its normal position at the peak of the staff when the nation is in mourning, according to a release from the Office of the Prime Minister – Communications, on Thursday.

It stated, “At half-mast, the flag is first hoisted to the top of the staff for an instant, and then lowered to the half-mast position.

“Before lowering the flag down for the day the flag is again raised to the top of the staff. Other flags on the same stand of poles should also be at half-mast or should not be flown at all when the National Flag is at half-mast. 

“Flags of foreign nations should not be flown at half mast, unless their country is also observing mourning.”

Meanwhile, the Trinidad and Tobago Police Service (TTPS) stated that the funeral will take place at the Church of the Assumption, 70 Long Circular Road, Maraval, from 8:30 am to 1pm.

It stated vehicles heading east along Long Circular Road will be required to turn north onto Stephens Road and exit onto Saddle Road which will be one-way traffic until 1pm.
