FOURTEEN members of the Anti-Kidnapping Unit were given training by the US Federal Bureau of Investigation through the US Embassy earlier this month.
On July 15, a team of experts from the FBI’s Criminal Investigative Division and Crisis Negotiations Unit conducted the virtual training with the officers.
In a press release by the US Embassy in Port-of-Spain on Thursday, the Embassy stated that the officers were taught modern techniques and suitable practices regarding the process of investigations and negotiations emerging from such cases.
The FBI said they hoped to provide more in-depth in person training once the Covid-19 health protocols were lifted.
Commissioner of Police Gary Griffith thanked the US team for the continued partnership with the Trinidad and Tobago Police Service (TTPS).
He said, “I am pleased to have officers under my command attend a virtual kidnapping training session with the FBI. This training focused on best practices and would enable the Anti-Kidnapping Unit and the analytical department to utilise modern techniques in kidnapping investigations. As Commissioner of Police, I will continue to seek out training opportunities for officers of the TTPS by partnering with established organisations such as the FBI.”
