A FALLING tent caused the opening ceremony of the new Josephine Shaw House in Port-of-Spain to come to an abrupt halt.
Attendees were forced to flee from the tent that was filled with water to avoid being hit.
The incident occurred while Minister of National Security Fitzgerald Hinds was giving the feature address.
Speaking before the minister was Minister of Youth Development and Nationalism Foster Cummings.
He said the new house at Henry Street in Port of Spain will be more than just a transition home for women between the ages of 18 and 25 years.
Cummings said, “It will not only offer transition for young women into adulthood but will also provide a holistic development for the program to incorporate psychological support, skills training, career and personal development, job placement and reintegration into society.”
In March, Cummings had toured the new facility that was constructed by theĀ Urban Development Corporation of Trinidad and Tobago (UDeCOTT).
The home was initially used as a transition home by the Salvation Army, to provide safe and secure housing for young women who were entering the workforce or completing their education.
