Nicole Dyer-Griffith, former Miss Universe Trinidad and Tobago, has disclosed that her fight against breast cancer has entered a new phase after doctors discovered a tumor in her brain.
The 37-year-old shared the update in a candid social media video, detailing her journey and resolve to continue battling the disease.
Dyer-Griffith, initially diagnosed with stage three inflammatory breast cancer in April 2024, revealed that a recent MRI ahead of Carnival season confirmed the cancer had metastasized to her brain.
“This is what’s called brain Mets—metastasis. The cancer has spread to another part of my body,” she explained.
“My first thought was, ‘You cannot be serious. Give a man a break,” Dyer said.
Despite the setback, the former senator leaned into her faith and the support of loved ones to navigate the news. Drawing parallels to the biblical story of Job, she said, “It’s about weathering storms, being tested, yet not losing hope. Your faith must be stronger than the test.”
Her treatment plan now includes surgery within the coming week, followed by targeted radiation—a process she humourously lamented revisiting so soon. “All I hear is my friend from radiation saying, ‘Do not come back.’ I really didn’t want to,” she said, chuckling. “But it is what it is.”
Dyer-Griffith expressed deep gratitude for her family, community, and faith, calling them her pillars. “I can only be here because of God’s grace, my family’s support, and all of you,” she said, urging prayers not just for herself but for her loved ones. “This has been challenging for all of us. When you pray for me, lift them up too.”
