IT’S the ultimate dream match for a finals and we have one this Saturday at 8pm at the legendary Maracanã.
Argentina overcame Columbia in the second semi-finals on Tuesday night by the penalty route. As is customary in this tournament Argentina scored early with great positive and attacking play. Argentina only have themselves to blame and are lucky not to be knocked out. They squandered at least three simple chances and then found themselves in extra time and a penalty shootout. I am not complaining. I love the shoot outs.
It was left to the goalkeeper Emiliano Martinez to make three brilliant saves to allow them to progress. In the shootout a fired up Lionel Messi shouted to Columbia’s Mina to dance now, after he missed a penalty.
Luis Diaz’s second half goal cancelled out Lauturo Martinez’s opener from another sublime Messi pass. Argentina have played some handsome football but become very relaxed when they take the lead and allow the opponent to get into the game.
In the final against a very powerful and determined Brazil they cannot afford to give the initiative away.
Brazil are at home and are the defending champions and threw out Argentina in the 2019 semi-finals at the Copa. They will enter as the favourites.
Argentina has a fired up Lionel Messi, who is hungry for an international trophy and maybe another Balon D’or. It will be an exciting affair as the top two South American teams clash for glory.
