DOMINICA — THE Dominica Labour Party (DLP) has won a landslide victory in General Elections on Friday.
Preliminary results showed the party led by Prime Minister Roosevelt Skerrit winning 18 of the 21 parliamentary seats.
The party has now won an unprecedented fifth term in power.
The opposition United Workers’ Party lost three of its six seats with Melissa Skerrit, the prime minister’s wife winning one of those seats.
The elections took place with opposition supporters demanding more rigorous checks on voter registrations and a prohibition on expatriate Dominican citizens
returning to vote.
Security forces from neighboring Caribbean islands where brought in to maintain peace on the island with a population of about 75,000 people.
