RADIO personality Randy Mansoor aka “DJ Smooth” has been charged for allegedly biting a woman on her cheek, hitting her with a doubles and choking her.
The Trinidad and Tobago Police Service (TTPS) in a media statement on Monday, stated that the 34-year-old was placed on $500,000 bail by a Justice of the Peace, for the offences of Intent to Render Unconscious, Assault Occasioning Actual Bodily Harm and Assault by Beating against a female victim.
As a condition of bail, Mansoor of Valencia is also expected to report to the district police station between 6 am to 9 am, once a week.
He is expected to appear before a Port of Spain Magistrate to answer to the charges on October 28.
The victim reported to police that on June 7, she and Mansoor, a DJ at Boom Champions 94.1FM, were at a nightclub when they got into an argument during which he allegedly bit her on the cheek.
They then proceeded to Cipriani Boulevard, where they engaged in another argument, resulting in the accused allegedly hitting the victim with a doubles to her face.
The couple then proceeded to Chaguanas where the victim attempted to retrieve her phone from the accused, when he allegedly began choking her.
A report was made to the Eastern Division Gender-Based Violence Unit (GBVU) on that same date and an investigation launched into the matter.
The investigation was supervised by Supt Claire Guy-Alleyne and ASP Bridglal both of the GBVU. Mansoor was arrested and charged with the offences by WPC Cooper, of the Port of Spain Division’s GBVU, on Thursday and was granted bail by JP Stephen Young on that same date.
This is not the first time Mansoor has been charged. In June, he was charged with three offences, including choking with intent to render unconscious, common assault and assault by beating. He was granted bail in the sum of $80,000.
