THERE has been a 50% increase in first-dose vaccines.
This according Minister of Health Terrence Deyalsingh during the Ministry of Health’s virtual presser on Wednesday.
Deyalsingh said, “Between yesterday and Monday, we saw a 50% increase in the uptick of the first dose level.”
He said the three vaccines available for in Trinidad and Tobago that have a two-dose regime were Sinopharn, AstraZeneca, and Pfizer.
Deyalsingh said, “We would have done 2,864 first doses while yesterday there was 2,887 which represented 50% increase from a very low-level last week of roughly 1,800.”
The minister recalled the last time there were consistent figures of 2,800 was on September 13, where 2,098 vaccines were injected.
Deyalsingh said there was an increase with the Johnson and Johnson vaccine.
He said, “We are now averaging between 700 and 800. Between J&J, one-shot and done, and the other three which are the two dose, regimen there was an increase of 1,200 for the two consecutive days.”
He hoped that this pattern would escalate to 2, 000 shots per day.
The minister said the total number of people with one dose of a vaccine thus far was 572,957 which is a representation of 40.9% of the total population.
Deyalsingh said, “There are now 493,367 persons with the second shot or the J&J one shot on their way to being full vaccinated, which is 35.2% of the population.”
Children
He said to date, 41,207 minors between the ages of 12 to 18 have received their first shot.
The minister said that number represented 45.5% of the school age population. “While 28, 275 of that 41,000 have received their second dose, whilst 28,275 are on their way to being fully vaccinated.”
Pregnant population
Deyalsingh also said that 609 pregnant women have already accessed their firs dose of the Pfizer vaccine while 262 have accessed their dose.
