UNITED National Congress (UNC) Aranguez/St Joseph candidate Devesh Maharaj says his team will respond to love and peace to reports of vandalism and voter intimidation during his campaign.
He said, “We have responded with peace; we have responded with love.”
Speaking at a meeting on Friday night, he said, “We have been subject to very vicious attacks.”
He said that his supporters were also threatened by men coming into their meetings and lifting their shirts to expose firearms as a means of intimidation.

Questioning the need for such tactics, he said, “Why all of this? We live in a democracy, all have a chance to win the minds and hearts of our constituents.”
Maharaj said, “Why are we so moved by hate? Why are we so moved by this thought of behaviour?”
He said he refused to respond to the hate with hate, but rather with love.
Maharaj said, “As my brother Kennedy Swaratsingh says, ‘love conquers all’ and we are a team of love.”
