DESPITE making unparliamentary comments that were described by House Speaker Bridgid Annisette-George as “misogynistic and homophobic,” Energy Minister Stuart Young will act again as prime minister.

Prime Minister Dr Keith Rowley will travel to New York on Monday enroute to Apia, Samoa, where he will attend the Commonwealth Heads of Government Meeting (CHOGM) 2024, a release from the Office of the Prime Minister stated on Sunday.

The release stated that Young will act as prime minister until Dr Rowley’s return. Young will now be acting as head of government for the third consecutive time when Dr Rowley has left the country. Previously Minister of Finance Colm Imbert has acted as PM in the past nine years.

After his “hot mic” incident in the Parliament, Young has been publicly criticised for his comments about “zamie” described as a sexual act between two women. He has directed his statement to Opposition Leader Kamla Persad-Bissesssar who said he should seek a psychological diagnosis.

Young has said sorry for his comments but not directly to Persad-Bissessar while Dr Rowley has called on her to apologise for a comment one of her minister has made in Parliament saying that he and his father were rapists.

“Minister of Foreign and CARICOM Affairs, Senator the Hon. Dr Amery Browne and His Excellency Vishnu Dhanpaul, High Commissioner for the Republic of Trinidad and Tobago to the United Kingdom will accompany the Prime Minister to the meeting.
