AN anti-crime and Driving Under the Influence (DUI) operation in the capital city early Sunday morning resulted in the arrest of ten motorists, including a Trinidad and Tobago Coast Guard officer and a director at the Copyright Music Organisation of Trinidad and Tobago (COTT).
The operation, spearheaded by the Port of Spain Division of the Trinidad and Tobago Police Service (TTPS), took place along Park Street between 12 midnight and 6am on Sunday, March 15, 2026.
According to police reports, the exercise focused on keeping intoxicated drivers off the roads and clamping down on illegal firearms. While officers stopped and searched 39 vehicles and their occupants for illegal weapons and ammunition—yielding no illegal items—ten drivers failed breathalyzer tests and were arrested for having breath alcohol levels exceeding the prescribed legal limit.
One of the suspects, identified by police as a 31-year-old janitor named Rahim, faces additional charges. In addition to failing the breathalyzer test, he was charged with driving without a certificate of insurance and driving without a driver’s permit, which police noted had never been issued to him.
