PRESIDENT of the Scrap Iron Dealers Association (TTSIDA) Allan Ferguson says that the government wants to permanently close down the industry.
He made the comment while speaking at press conference on Thursday at By-Pass Road. Kelly Village in Caroni.
In an interview with AZP News on Friday, Ferguson said, “The way the government moving now they want to frustrate us.”
He said last year there were about 125 scrap iron yards, but only about 25 today.
Ferguson said the scrap iron dealers were not being given export licences and government was not putting in place enough personnel to monitor the industry.
He said, “They just don’t have the workforce.”
