It aims to champion sustainable transportation methods such as walking and cycling, providing viewers with crucial insights into their benefits and the challenges faced by vulnerable road users.

Traffic congestion has long plagued Trinidad and Tobago. Arrive Alive cited a 2023 report by the Inter-American Development Bank and The Ministry of Works and Transport revealed that commuters lose approximately 1.2 million productive hours daily due to severe traffic jams. This significant time loss negatively impacts both the economy and the mental and physical health of the population, it stated.

Sharon Inglefield, President of NGO Arrive Alive, said, “While motorised transportation offers convenience and faster commutes, it comes with significant drawbacks like pollution, high costs, safety risks, reduced physical activity, and traffic congestion.

“It’s crucial for decision-makers to prioritise infrastructure that supports all road users, including pedestrians and cyclists, aligning with the United Nations Sustainable Development Goals for sustainable, energy-efficient, and affordable transportation.”

The documentary highlights the numerous benefits of non-motorised transportation, such as reducing pollution, decreasing the need for foreign exchange, and promoting healthier lifestyles. It also brings to light the dangers pedestrians and cyclists face due to the current road infrastructure and unsafe user habits, advocating for a transportation system that better accommodates these vulnerable road users.

Arrive Alive hopes that this film will inspire decision-makers to take decisive steps in re-examining and redesigning the road systems in Trinidad and Tobago to better support sustainable transportation options.

This aligns with the United Nations Sustainable Development Goals for transportation, which emphasise low and zero-emission, energy-efficient, and affordable modes of transport.
