CHENNAI – CENTURIES from Shai Hope and Shimron Hetmyer secure an eight-wicket win for the West Indies in their first One-Day International against India at the MA Chidambaram Stadium, Chepauk, Chennai on Sunday.
India were sent into bat by West Indies captain Kieron Pollard and reached 287 for 8 in their allotted 50 overs.
Shreya Iyer (70) and Rishabh Pant (71) were aided by opener Rohit Sharma (36) and Kedar Jadhav (40) to get India to a decent target.
West Indies got to victory with 13 balls to spare thanks to 102 from Hope and a 139 off 106 balls that included 11 fours and 7 sixes by Hetmyer who was received the man-of-the-match award.
The second ODI takes place on Wednesday at Visakhapatnam.
West Indies 291 for 2 (Hetmyer 139, Hope 102 not out) beat India 287 for 8 (Pant 71, Iyer 70, Jadhav 40, Paul 2-40, Joseph 2-45, Cottrell 2-46) by 8 wickets.
