CELLULAR phones found at the Women’s Prison, Golden Grove, Arouca have been seized by police.
The Trinidad and Tobago Police Service (TTPS) reported on Saturday that the seizure was made on Saturday, during a first-of-its-kind operation.
The operation was conducted between 1.15 am and 3 am and comprised an all-female search team made up of female officers from the DCP Operations Team, the Special Intelligence Unit (SIU), the Northern Division (North Central and Northern North), the National Emergency Division (NED) and an all-female Prison Emergency Response Unit (ERU), backed by an all-female Guard and Emergency Branch (GEB) contingent.
The TTPS stated in a media release, “The exercise focused on female inmates who, similar to their male counterparts, are suspected of coordinating serious criminal activity outside the prison walls while incarcerated.”
During the operation, three female inmates were found to have concealed cellular phones internally. One cellular phone was recovered at the prison, while the remaining two inmates were referred for medical examination.
An additional cellular phone was recovered from another cell. Officers also discovered other items of evidential value.
Enquiries are continuing by the DCP Operations Team, and charges are expected to be laid against the inmates involved.
The operation was coordinated by the TTPS and the Trinidad and Tobago Prison Service, under the direction of the Commissioner of Police Allister Guevarro, acting Commissioner of Prisons Corraspe and Deputy Commissioner of Police Suzette Martin.
Supervised by Senior Superintendent of Prisons L. Davis, Assistant Superintendent Stanley, Sgt Hospedales of the Guard and Emergency Branch, acting Sgt John NED and Cpl Caruth of Northern North.
Man imprisoned for robbing police officer
A 31-year-old man of Kerr Road, Eastern Quarry, Laventille was sentenced to three years and six months’ imprisonment with hard labour when he appeared before the 11th Court at the Port of Spain Magistrates’ Court on Friday.
Romane Cordner pleaded guilty before Magistrate Indar Jagroop to the offence of Robbery with Violence and was subsequently convicted and sentenced.
The charge arose out of an incident which occurred on November 4, 2025 at the corner of George Street and Independence Square North, Port of Spain, during which a police officer was robbed of $20,000, and other personal items.
The investigation was spearheaded by Snr Supt Thom, Supt Baird, ASP Mungroo and supervised by Sgts Bhagwandeen and Masleir.
Cordner was charged for the said offense PC Mollineau of the PoS CID Area East.
