WOODBROOK – A popular Carnival band leader and a local entertainer were among five people held on Friday night for driving under the influence.
The five were held by officers of the Port-of-Spain Division during an exercise which began at 8 p.m. on Friday and ended at 1 a.m. on Saturday.
The exercise was supervised by ACP Williams and overseen by Snr Sup Ramdeen, Sup Simon, Sup Rampath, ASP Sooker, Inspector Commissiong, Sgt Bharath, and others.
During the exercise, the officers conducted road checks and breathalyser tests at various places in Woodbrook and Port-of-Spain.
Twelve people were tested and five people, between the ages of 34 and 51, failed.
The highest reading recorded was 79 microgrammes per 1000ml of breath. The legal limit is 35 microgrammes.
The five are expected to appear before a Port-of-Spain Magistrate on Monday.
