CARIBBEAN AIRLINES (CAL) Board of Directors is conducting full audits of all departments and processes, and developing a long-term, sustainable growth place, as it officially announces the resignation of Chief Executive Officer (CEO) Garvin Madera.
In a press release on Monday, the CAL Board officially confirmed the resignation of Madera with immediate effect, after his resignation was reported by the media earlier in the month.
The release quoted Madera as saying, “I want to take this opportunity to thank all the employees of Caribbean Airlines who have done such a fantastic job over the past few years, facing some very difficult challenges and being their best, time and again, for each other and our passengers. Also, thanks to partners for their support and commitment and customers for their trust and loyalty. I wish everyone well.”
Madera’s resignation was first reported on October 3, just days after Prime Minister Kamla Persad-Bissessar issued a warning to the state-owned airline to “sort out their mess.”
Madera had been the airline’s longest serving CEO, serving for eight years.
The Board said in the interim CAL Chief Operating Officer Nirmala Ramai had been appointed Acting CEO “until further notice.”
The Board stated during this leadership transition, along with the Senior Team, they would be focused on creating stability, safety and accountability within the operations of the airline.
Part of their focus, the release stated, was, “Conducting full and thorough audits of all departments and processes to strengthen governance, safety and accountability.”
They further stated they would be reviewing operations to increase efficiency and modernisation, and developing a long-term, financially responsible and sustainable growth plan.
“Caribbean Airlines will continue to serve the region with pride, reliability and a steadfast commitment to safety,” the release stated.
It stated, “The Board of Directors remains committed to open and timely communication with employees, customers and stakeholders as this leadership transition and strategic plan are implemented.”
