Bronze for Corporal at Caribbean Karate Championships

A POLICE corporal wins a bronze medal at the Caribbean Karate Championships in Nicaragua last month.

A release by the Trinidad and Tobago Police Service (TTPS) on Monday stated that Cpl Shiva Sookdeo, known as Spartan, secured the bronze in the Men’s +84kg category.

It stated that he is the first senior individual athlete from Trinidad and Tobago to accomplish this feat at these prestigious championships held March 18 to March 24, 2024

Commissioner of Police Erla Harewood-Christopher said, “Corporal Sookdeo, serving as Captain of the Trinidad and Tobago National Karate Team and as a dedicated officer attached to the Police Skills Department at the Police Academy, has brought great pride to our nation and our organisation.”

The release said Cpl Sookdeo’s previous won gold at the World Police and Fire Games in 202 marking the first instance of a police officer from Trinidad and Tobago clinched such an honour in the sport of karate.

Cpl Sookdeo said, “I would like to use this achievement to motivate and inspire anyone who endeavours in a similar journey because I believes no one can dim your lights or stop your dreams with dedication, sacrifice, and consistency”. He added that he would like to give back to the nation and is willing to use his platform to visit various communities and schools in the hope to motivate and inspire others.
