THE Trinidad and Tobago Electricity Commission (T&TEC) has a new general manager.
Chrisalston Belle took up the position effective January 1, 2025.
He takes over from Curvis Francois, who retired in November after a 38-year career.
Belle, an Electrical Engineer with a BSc in Electrical and Computer Engineering from the University of the West Indies, brings a wealth of experience to the role, as stated in a release from T&TEC on Tuesday.
His journey with T&TEC began in 1994 after completing the company’s Engineer-in-Training programme. Over his 32-year tenure, he has held prominent positions, most recently serving as Chief Technical Officer (CTO) since 2020.
As CTO, Belle managed key operational divisions, including Transmission Development, System Control, and Generation Interface.
He is credited with the successful completion of the Union/Gandhi 220kV circuit, a critical infrastructure project enhancing electricity transmission across the country.
In addition to his technical expertise, Belle has pioneered several initiatives to modernize T&TEC’s operations. These include introducing a loop scheme model to minimise outage times, implementing an Outage Management System, and leveraging Business Intelligence for data-driven decision-making. He also championed the use of drones for line inspections and spearheaded the first Utility Scale Renewable Energy Power Purchase Agreement for the Brechin Castle solar plant.
The T&TEC Board thanked Francois for his service and contributions, extending best wishes for his retirement.
