A hurricane watch is in effect for Barbados as Tropical Storm Gonzalo continues to strengthen.
This advisory was released by the Barbados Meteorological Service which explained that a watch is issued 48 hours before the anticipated first occurrence of tropical-storm-force winds.
On Thursday morning, Gonzalo was 1403 kilometers (km) east of Barbados with winds of 100km per hour and forecast to pass about 110km to the south of Caribbean island on Saturday.
The Met Service expected storm force winds to spread across Barbados early Saturday, increasing to hurricane force by the afternoon.
Officials advised that delays to transport routes and travel services should be expected leading up to the arrival of Tropical Storm Gonzalo and during its passage.
