PORT OF SPAIN – A bandit being pursued by police sought refuge in the Holy Rosary Church in Port of Spain, where he disguised himself as a priest in an attempt to evade capture.
According to a statement from the Archdiocese of Port of Spain, the incident occurred around 10 am on Thursday. The fleeing suspect crashed into a police vehicle at the intersection of Park and Henry Streets before darting into the Holy Rosary Church.
Inside the church, the suspect hid in the sacristy and donned a priest’s alb to blend in. However, his efforts were in vain as a member of the Trinidad and Tobago Police Service (TTPS) followed him into the sacristy and apprehended him. The police recovered cash and other stolen items from the suspect.
The Archdiocese expressed its concern over the crime situation, stating, “The Roman Catholic Church of the Archdiocese of Port of Spain continues to pray for the crime situation in Trinidad and Tobago. We ask the intercession of Our Lady of the Assumption; pray for us.”
