AS Trinidad and Tobago is set to experience bad weather, the Ministry of Rural Development and Local Government (RDLG) says it’s ready to assist communities.
In a media release on Friday, the RDLG noted meetings with the Disaster Management Unit in all 14 Regional Corporations, the Trinidad and Tobago Meteorological Service (TTMS) and all chief executive officers of the corporations to address the expected systems to affect the country over the next several days.
In light of the current and approaching weather systems, the public has been advised to take proactive measures to ensure readiness:
- Engage in self-action- Residents are urged to inspect their properties, nearby drains and watercourses. They should promptly remove debris or obstruction from their residential properties;
- In light of alerts by the Health Ministry as to mosquito infestations, residents should eliminate open containers and attend to areas prone to pooling water and encourage larvae growth;
- Be aware- The public is reminded that prolonged rainfall over several days may lead to land slippage and street flooding; and
- Engage in community action- “If you see something, say something.” Residents are urged to report any debris or instructions blocking watercourses or drains in the area.
Therefore the RDLG has assured the public all 14 Disaster Management Units were on standby to assist corporations affected by flash flooding, landslides and fallen trees.
Therefore, citizens are encouraged to stay updated through official communication channels for updates and advisories.
