A NINE-month-old baby girl is dead after being fed insecticide by her mother.
The infant was taken to the Princes Town District Hospital unconscious around 3.15 pm on Wednesday.
A police report stated that the baby was transferred to the San Fernando General Hospital where she died around 6.38 pm.
The 30-year-old told police that the baby began to cry uncontrollably around 12.20 pm and she became frustrated.
The woman who also has a ten-year-old boy used a syringe to feed the child Malathion, police said.
The report stated that the woman had checked the child sometime later and found her unresponsive and the baby was taken by ambulance to hospital.
A team of officers visited the house at Busy Corner in New Grant and seized a five-millilitre syringe, a baby feeding bottle and a 250ml bottle with the marking “Malathion”.
The woman was taken into custody.
Malathion is commonly used to control mosquitoes and a variety of insects that attack fruits and vegetables.
