ONE business group is hailing the United States removal of tariffs on key Trinidad & Tobago exports as a move in a positive direction.
The American Chamber of Commerce of Trinidad & Tobago (AMCHAM T&T) welcomes the removal of tariffs on agricultural products including ammonia and urea ammonium nitrate (UAN).
The Chamber stated in a media release on Sunday, “We are grateful for this development, which strengthens the longstanding trade relationship between our countries and brings important relief to local producers affected by the earlier tariffs. AMCHAM T&T also acknowledges the government of Trinidad and Tobago for its advocacy in securing this outcome and supporting the competitiveness of our domestic industries.”
The Chamber’s statement comes after the announcement by the Ministry of Foreign and CARICOM Affairs that T&T will benefit from US President Donald Trump Executive Order signed on Friday relating to reciprocal tariffs applied under the US tariff regime reversing an earlier decision made on April 2 when the items were subjected to a 15% tariff.
AMCHAM T&T Chief Executive Officer Nirad Tewarie said, “This decision by the United States is an important signal that our trade relationship remains strong and rooted in mutual respect,”
