Allyson West has been appointed as Trinidad and Tobago’s new Minister of Public Administration.

This was announced by Communications Minister Donna Cox in a news release on Wednesday.

Cox said the Prime Minister had advised the President to revoke Garvin Simonette’s appointment as Government senator and to assign the Public Administration portfolio to West. This is in addition to her duties as minister in the Ministry of Finance.

Foster Cummings who was removed as a senator recently to make way for Cox, has been reappointed to the Upper House.

Laventille East MP Adrian Leonce has been made a Parliamentary Secretary in the Ministry of Public Utilities.

West’s appointment comes in the wake of MP for Port-of-Spain South Marlene McDonald being fired as minister of public administration after being charged with corruption.

Garvin Simonette was to replace McDonald but his swearing in was pulled back after his conviction for driving under the influence in the US went viral on social media.
