POLITICAL Leader of the Progressive Empowerment Party (PEP) Phillip Edward Alexander is threatening to sue the Minister of Works and Transport Rohan Sinanan after his ministry took away 12 orange-coloured barrels placed along the Solomon Hochoy near the Gandhi Village Roundabout in August.
Amy Harripaul, of Global Chambers, of Railway Road in Princes Town, has sent a pre-action protocol letter dated November 9, 2022, on behalf of Alexander to Sinanan.
The letter stated that on August 24, Alexander placed 12 orange-coloured barrels with reflective lights and the markings “Slow Down Road Ends” and “Phillip Will Fix It” near the roundabout.
It stated that this was done as a safety warning to drivers.
The letter claimed that the barrels, valued at $800 each, were carried away by Ministry of Works agents/servants without the consent of Alexander the next day.
It stated, “We are informed that one of the reasons proffered was that the installation went against the safety plan for the area.
“Further, we are instructed that our client informed the Ministry. However, the agents and/or servants acting for the Ministry were insistent on their course of conduct and refused to entertain any suggestions of compromise afforded by our client.”
The letter stated that Alexander views this action as malicious, vindictive and oppressive.
It stated, “Our client has since been deprived of the use and enjoyment of his property despite his numerous requests to have the property returned.
“The Ministry continues to detain our client’s property to his detriment. Thus, our client requests that, in addition to providing the information, that his property be returned immediately and that he be compensated for the loss consequential upon the illegal action of the Ministry.”
The letter stated that Sinanan has 28 days to reply and failure to do so will result in High Court proceedings.
