TRINIDAD and Tobago can be saved politically only if all political parties join forces with the United National Congress (UNC) against the People’s National Movement (PNM), says activist Phillip Edward Alexander.

In a media statement on Wednesday, the leader of Citizens Union of Trinidad and Tobago said election history has shown every time the UNC was divided, the PNM retained power and now more than ever, the party needed to be removed from government.

He said, “The only salvation of this country right now is via the UNC despite how weak it comes across today, it commands the largest voter block in the country. The secret is no secret.

“All those opposed to the PNM have to find a way to work with the UNC or you will help the PNM at election time. All of this is based on the experience of having actually done this before.”

Alexander said, “The UNC cannot win an election in a three-way race as 2007, 2015 and 2020 proved. The absolute worst version of the PNM in our history led by a man despised and reviled won the last election. We all have to get over ourselves and get down to the business of negotiating a proper accommodation that can unseat this vile, corrupt and incompetent government from office, or learn to live with them. That is the only way forward for this country.”

He said holding on to past disagreements had no place in the politics of winning and every one including UNC political will have to demonstrate that they are capable of putting aside differences and do what is best for the country.

  1. yes it the discussion should be about power sharing and joint platform arrangement it is time we start working on this movement and not 2 months before election we know the history if we fail to act responsible at this time we will continue to reap what the pnm give us this must change time to meaningfully come together one love

  2. I am in agreement with you on this. Even if you do not like the UNC you have to understand that they, together with ALL the Opposing forces (Suzette Louwe included) are the best option to defeat the PNM in a general election. Remember also, whichever party takes over from the PNM, they will be easier to remove than a PNM government, if they fail to listen to the people. This is what we should want as citizens rather than a party like the PNM, who feels they can do whatever they want and get away with it. Admittedly, they probably think that way because of their ‘die-hard’ support base. For me personally, I like the UNC because I know they can be easily voted out if the need arises!

  3. I’ve never voted in life but I’m ready to stand against the oppression in this country

  4. The other parties have to join the unc an not the unc joining them an I think that’s where the problem will be ok

  5. I absolutely agree . However, unc will not get my vote if phillip is not part of the unc.
