Qatar 2022 Matchday 15 Sunday December 4, 2022
Round of 16 day 2
By Gerald Lutchman
THERE were no surprises again as both England and France made easy work of their oppositions. They will meet on Saturday at 3 pm- this should be a cracker of a game.
France 3 vs Poland 1
France easily disposed of Poland in this game. Poland were more attacking in this game than at any point of the tournament and had their moments. Olivier Giroud scored his 52nd goal and became France’s top goal scorer in the 44th minute, he has surpassed Thierry Henry.
Klyian Mbappe (74th and 90+1) scored a brace as he propelled France to the clash with England. Robert Robert Lewandowski scored a consolation penalty in the 90+7. France seek to become the third team after Italy (1934 and 1938) and Brazil (1952 and 1956) to win consecutive tournaments.
England 3 vs Senegal 0
I was highly impressed with England’s demolition of Senegal. I had thought that Senegal would have given England a tough fight. Jordan Henderson (39th) opened the scoring. Harry Kane (45+3) finally found the net with the second- and is now only one away of equaling Wayne Rooney’s record of most goals for England. Bukayo Saka (57th) completed the route for England.
The teenager Jude Bellingham was the main star as he set up both Saka and Kane for their goals. He has certainly been one of the finds of this tournament and France will do well to stop his contributions. In Bellingham, Saka, Kane, Marcus Rashford and Jack Grealish England has the skill, precision and ability to overcome the Mbappe dependent France.
