A Carnival Holiday for Criminals

OUR country is looking for something positive to say we had a crime free Carnival where we actually have to stress that the Carnival was safe and be grateful to the criminals and the gangs for not killing us and murdering us.

Yet we still heard of a terrible incident of the shooting on Ariapita Avenue that caused the death of two persons and injured a tourist on Carnival Saturday.

Carnival however, was managed without the senseless violence plaguing the land.

It’s a sad state of affairs in this country when everywhere you go you are at the mercy of the gangs and criminals without protection from the authorities normally, but at least for Carnival we can get a break.

Normally you are at risk of being murdered at any time without a second thought from these criminals. Every Carnival we know that is the time that the criminals want to party too, so the criminals take a “Carnival holiday” and the streets are reasonably safe during this period.

What the authorities do not highlight is that the criminals and the gangs love to party for Carnival too and love to play mas . They love the all-inclusive prestige fetes and they play mas in the prestige bands too. So they take a holiday for Carnival but the months leading up to Carnival is open season on citizens. This is where they rob, grab, snatch, hijack cars, hold up businesses, murder innocent people all for the “Carnival money.”

Every right-thinking citizen is wondering what it would take for Dr Rowley to replace the inept Minister Hinds and put a competent person in charge of national security to make any meaningful impact on crime and violence in this country. This government continues to fail the citizens of Trinidad and Tobago at every juncture and the pressure on law abiding citizens have reached boiling point. What are the alternatives now?

So I must say I do not understand how Minister Hinds can make a statement that we had such a safe Carnival when he understands the reality of the situation and why the gangs and the criminals took their hiatus. Mr Hinds said he was satisfied with the safety and security of the country during Carnival, however he understands this period and is just playing smart with foolishness as usual.

Let me say the whole country will breathe a sigh of relief if we ever replace Minister Hinds. If we replace him in the morning, there would be jubilation and if we can just replace him with a competent, caring and experienced person that takes their jobs seriously the whole country may dance in the streets like Carnival Monday and Tuesday.

Either do this or call the general elections now as the people have had enough of this administration.
