THERE are 1,529 confirmed Covid-19 cases in Jamaica.
In a statement to the media on Sunday evening, Jamaica’s Health and Wellness Minister, Dr Christopher Tufton said the country’s newly confirmed cases were 68 females and 48 males with ages ranging from 17 to 85.
The hospitals that had the most number of cases were the Kingston Public Hospital and the University Hospital of the West Indies he said.
Tufton said the of the 1,529 cases, 435 were imported, 453 cases are contacts of confirmed cases, 125 local transmission cases not epidemiologically linked, 236 related to the workplace cluster in St Catherine and 280 were under investigation. 55 per cent of the cases were males while 65 per cent were females with ages ranging from two-months-old to 89.
Of all the cases, there have been 16 deaths. Jamaica has a population of almost 3 million.
Several healthcare workers have also been found to be positive with the virus.
Tufton said, “It is now more important than ever that Jamaicans remain vigilant in their infection prevention and control measures to reduce the risk of exposure to Covid-19. Jamaicans must take personal responsibility to protect themselves, their loved ones, their communities and the country.”
“Everyone has a part to play. With the efforts of our hard working healthcare workers across the island and cooperation of every Jamaican, we can beat Covid-19,” he said.
He reminded Jamaicans of the Covid-19 protocols and asked again that they adhere to them.
