A 33-year-old soldier from El Socorro has been arrested for breach of a protection order.
He was arrested on Wednesday following an altercation which took place on Saturday.
A report was made to the St Joseph Police Station on Sunday by the mother of his child.
She alleged that the soldier came to her home to have her sign a book for payment of child maintenance to which she complied.
However, he was dissatisfied with her signature and an argument ensued between the soldier and the victim’s mother, police said.
The soldier then allegedly attacked the victim with a knife, stabbing her twice on her neck.
She was able to escape to a room nearby and lock herself inside after her mother grabbed the knife.
The soldier also allegedly struggled with the victim’s mother. She sustained injuries to her right palm.
The soldier was arrested on Wednesday by PC Antoine and a party of officers including a Northern Division Emergency Response Patrol (NDERP) Unit.
He was charged with the offence and is expected appear before a Tunapuna Magistrate on Friday.
