EXERCISE extreme caution on the roadways, especially with the onset of the rainy season.
This is the message being conveyed to motorists by the Trinidad and Tobago Police Service (TTPS).
In a press release sent on Saturday the TTPS noted the uptick of vehicular accidents and urged drivers to maintain the speed limit and to ensure their vehicle’s roadworthiness, especially regarding worn tyres.
They stated, “With wet and slippery roads now a daily reality, the dangers of speeding are significantly heightened. Motorists are reminded that excessive speed greatly reduces reaction time, increases braking distance, and elevates the risk of serious collisions-often with fatal consequences.”
Regarding roadworthiness they added, “Worn tires drastically increase the risk of skidding and hydroplaning.”
The TTPS highlighted the frequency of speeding on the nation’s roadway, pointing out that during a Speed Enforcement Operation on May 23, between the hours of 10 am and 2 pm on the Sir Solomon Hochoy, 16 Electronic Penalty Notices were issued for excessive speeding.
They are again calling on the nation’s motorists to obey speed limits and exercise caution on the country’s roadways.
According to statistics provided by Arrive Alive as of April 24 2025, there have been 24 road traffic accidents that have resulted in 22 fatalities.
