THE Ministry of Education has extended condolences to the family of Zwade Alleyne, a form five student of Arima North Secondary School, who died after being shot in the head outside his apartment.
The ministry issued a statement on Alleyne’s passing on Thursday.
In a post on Facebook, the ministry stated, “Dr the Honourable Michael Dowlath, Minister of Education, along with the executive team, extend heartfelt condolences to the family, friends, classmates and teammates of Zwade Alleyne, a form 5 student of Arima North Secondary School, who tragically passed away.”
It stated, “Zwade was a passionate footballer and a valued member of his community’s football academy. His presence, both on and off the field, will be deeply missed.”
The Ministry added that it mourns alongside those who knew and loved him and will continue to support the Arima North Secondary School community through the Student Support Services Division.
“May his soul rest in eternal peace,” the post concluded.
Seventeen-year-old Zwade Alleyne, a Form Five student of Arima North Secondary School, died after being shot in the head outside his apartment in Maloney.
Alleyne passed away at the Eric Williams Medical Sciences Complex in Mount Hope Thursday.
Alleyne was shot by an unknown gunman on Saturday outside Building 12, where he lived in the Maloney Gardens area. Alleyne did not recover from his injuries and succumbed days later.
The gunman remains unidentified and at large.
Alleyne was a talented footballer, having represented Arima North Secondary and Maloney Real Footballers Academy.
At age 15 years, Alleyne made his debut for Arima North Secondary School in their 3-0 victory over Trinity College East during the 2023 East Zone Intercol semifinals.
The football team representing Arima North Secondary ‘The Dial Dynamos’ went on to claim the zonal Intercol title that year. Alleyne, helped his team secure the East Zone Under-16 League and Knockout trophies during the same season.
This performance earned Alleyne a spot at trials for the Trinidad and Tobago National Under-16 team in 2024, but did not make the cut in the final national squad.
