PORT OF SPAIN – A delegation from the Suriname state-owned oil company, Staatsolie Maatschappij Suriname N.V. (Staatsolie) has ended a visit here aimed at enhancing knowledge exchange and capacity building between the two oil producing Caribbean Community (CARICOM) countries.
“This renewed MoU (Memorandum of Understanding) represents a shared vision for sustainable energy development across the region. By combining our expertise, we open new pathways for growth and strengthen our region’s standing in the global energy arena,” said Erik Keskulathe, chief executive officer of Heritage Petroleum Company Limited (Heritage).
Keskulathe said this collaboration highlights both countries’ dedication to building a resilient Caribbean energy sector.
The visit here was coordinated by the National Energy Corporation of Trinidad and Tobago Limited (National Energy) with the delegation holding strategic meetings and site tours with key stakeholders across Trinidad and Tobago’s energy sector.
Staatsolie’s visit to Heritage follows the recent renewal of a MoU between Heritage, Paria Fuel Trading Company Limited, and Staatsolie that emphasises collaboration in four primary areas, namely exploration and production, training and development, environmental, social, and governance (ESG) initiatives, and trading and storage
“Aligned with the broader MoU signed on July 6, 2023, between the governments of Suriname and Trinidad and Tobago, the visit also reinforces a mutual commitment to sustainable energy cooperation,” according to a statement released here by Heritage. (CMC)
