Opposition Senators condemn TTT for its failure to broadcast the greetings brought by Hon. Kamla Persad-Bissessar at the NCIC Divali Nagar programme of Saturday 26th October, 2024
We the undersigned members of the Senate wish to condemn in the strongest terms the actions of state owned TTT regarding its live broadcast of the NCIC Divali Nagar programme during Saturday 26th October, 2024 and subsequent paltry excuses.
The streaming failures that occurred exclusively during the arrival, seating and address by the Leader of the Opposition, the Hon. Kamla Persad-Bissessar, SC, MP gives the impression to the public at large that TTT is operating as a PNM party group rather than an independent arm of the media.
It is passing strange that we have not seen such levels of technical failure in broadcasting on any other night of the Divali Nagar nor during the of live broadcasting several recent events of a similar nature where members of the Government had the limelight.

In fact, the insufficient programming aforementioned seems unique to the Leader of the Opposition, as no similar failure in the broadcast occurred before or after her address at the main stage.
It is not farfetched to think that this “glitch” is nothing more than a lame excuse for a deliberate act aimed at ensuring the Leader of the Opposition’s message and place of prominence on the said night was not showcased to the nation.
We remind TTT of its own watchwords of “Committed, Accurate, Relevant” and its legal and moral obligation to serve all of Trinidad and Tobago as an asset owned by the PEOPLE of Trinidad and Tobago and not the PNM.
The address of Trinidad and Tobago’s first and only Hindu female Prime Minister, and current Opposition Leader at a national event that celebrates a Hindu religious festival is a failure which any right thinking board of management would seek to rectify with haste.
Instead, the response from TTT and its feeble attempt to do right by stating that the missing part of the broadcast would be available on social media is unacceptable and falls far short of what is required.
The taxpayers of this country, who fund TTT and were denied the opportunity to hear from the Leader of the Opposition, must be given a fair opportunity to do so.
Therefore, we call upon TTT firstly issue a direct apology to the leader of the opposition and broadcast her address in full before Divali Day (Thursday 31st October, 2024) accompanied by proper advertising and notice of the same.
Anything less would be considered unacceptable and only give credence to the notion that all supposedly independent institutions in this country, including the media, are politically compromised.
