THE Ministry of Finance has extended the deadline for Property Tax payments from September 30, 2024, to November 29, 2024.
This extension, detailed in Legal Notice No. 175 of 2024, allows owners and occupiers of residential land to pay their taxes without penalties until the new date.
The extension also addresses ongoing issues with the receipt of Notices of Assessment from the Board of Inland Revenue, the ministry stated in a release on Monday evening.
To accommodate these challenges, the deadline for issuing Notices of Assessment has been extended to October 31, 2024.
The Ministry stated that it is actively exploring additional payment methods for Property Tax and promises further updates in the future.
Additionally, the public is reminded that under the Property Tax (Amendment) Act, 2024, the tax rate has been reduced from 3% to 2%.
This follows a statement by Finance Minister Colm Imbert in Parliament on Friday after people complained about long lines at Board on Inland Revenue (BIR) offices across the country.
Police also reported that criminals were following citizens from banks after they withdrew cash to pay their property tax.
