TWO men were arrested and a firearm and quantity of ammunition seized by Inter-Agency Task Force officers during an anti-crime exercise conducted in Belmont over the weekend.
The exercise was conducted on Sunday when officers went to Agostini Street, Belmont, where they observed a male suspect walking along the roadway.
Upon seeing the officers, the man attempted to hide behind a white motor vehicle which was parked on the roadway. The officers approached the vehicle and conducted a search which resulted in the discovery of a Beretta pistol loaded with a magazine containing 14 rounds of ammunition hidden behind the car.
The male suspect and the driver of the vehicle were also searched and found with balaclava masks in their possession.
The duo was arrested in connection with the finds.
In a separate exercise, this time in the Eastern Division, five men were arrested by officers of the Valencia Police Post in connection with a report of Stolen Vehicle.
During the exercise, officers proceeded to Mangree Trace, around 12:50 pm, yesterday, where they observed a silver Nissan Tiida motor vehicle being dismantled by five male suspects.
Inquiries revealed that the vehicle was allegedly stolen from the Central Division on Friday 26th April, 2024.
The five suspects, ages 20 to 62, all of Valencia, were arrested in connection with the matter.
