IT is said that you can find a Trini in any part of the world.
Well, this Sunday in Super Bowl LVIII when the Kanas City Chief take on the San Francisco 49ers at the Allegiant Stadium in Nevada, Trinidad and Tobago-born Javon Kinlaw is expected to be on the field.
In a Facebook post yesterday, Minister of Foreign and CARICOM Affairs Dr Amery Browne said:
“We have people everywhere!
“In one week it will be Carnival Sunday in T&T, but in the United States it will be Super Bowl Sunday with the San Francisco 49ers facing the Kansas City Chiefs.
“How many of us know that a 26 year old Trini defensive tackle (49ers) named Javon Kinlaw is carded to play in the 2024 Superbowl? He overcame tremendous odds to get to the top of his chosen field.”
Javon Kinlaw’s path to the Super Bowl began with his college football career at South Carolina, where he emerged as a standout player. He was drafted by the 49ers in the first round of the 2020 NFL Draft.
Born in Trinidad and Tobago, Kinlaw faced hardships during his childhood, including a period of homelessness in Washington, DC, after immigrating with his mother and siblings. He attended Goose Creek High School in South Carolina, showcasing early signs of his athletic prowess.
After a year at Jones County Junior College in 2016, Kinlaw transferred to the University of South Carolina, where he continued to excel. His performance during the 2017 and 2018 seasons demonstrated his defensive skills, earning him a place among the top talents in college football.
Returning for his senior season in 2019, Kinlaw solidified his reputation as a formidable defensive force and is now on the brink of Super Bowl glory.
