9 Held, Guns, Drugs Seized

NINE suspects are arrested in connection with recent serious reported crimes in the Central Division.

In exercises on Wednesday into Thursday, police also seizure of firearms, narcotics and cash in other policing divisions.

A release of the Trinidad and Tobago Police Service (TTPS) on Thursday stated that during an Operation Blue Line exercise in the Lamont Street, Longdenville area, nine persons fitting the description of suspects involved in the recent reports of serious crimes in the Central Division within the last two weeks were detained on outstanding enquiries.

Police also executed a search warrant for firearms and ammunition at a home located at Trotman Road, McBean Village, Couva on Wednesday. While searching the premises, a man threw a black bag through a window on the eastern side of the property.

The officers retrieved the bag which contained 72 grammes of cocaine. The officers also found 126 grams of marijuana concealed in a black bag, and as the search progressed, they found TT$57,022, $540 Barbados dollars and $102 of Canadian currency.

Sgt Howard seized the quantity of cash under the Proceeds of Crime Act. A male suspect was arrested in connection with the seizure. Couva Criminal Investigations Department (CID) and officers of the Financial Investigations Branch (FIB) are investigating the cash seizure.

Meanwhile, a firearm, ammunition and a quantity of cocaine were seized during exercises conducted in the South Western Division on Wednesday.

Members of the South Western Division Task Force received information and then proceeded to the Icacos Beach Front, Cedros, where they searched nearby bushes and found one Smith and Weston Revolver pistol with two rounds of 38 Special ammunition.

Also, drug blocks in Granville and Icacos Village were targeted and a 29-year-old man from Quinam Road, Penal, was arrested for Possession of 5.1 grammes of Cocaine, Obscene Language, Resisting Arrest, Disorderly Behaviour and Escaping Lawful Custody.
