$1M in Weed: Debe Market Vendor, Wife Held

A DEBE market vendor and his common-law wife were arrested after police allegedly found $1 million worth of marijuana and $1.05 million in cash at their home on Wednesday.

Police said around 12.15 am on Wednesday PC Sahadeo of the Gang Unit South Western Division executed a search warrant for firearms and ammunition.

When the officers searched the single-bedroom apartment, two cylindrical transparent jars containing marijuana, along with a black plastic bag containing 361 grammes of compressed marijuana were found on top of a table in the living room, a release from the Trinidad and Tobago Police Service stated on Thursday.

Police said they also found two medium-sized, black garbage bags, each containing a large amount of Trinidad and Tobago currency at the apartment on SS Erin Road, Debe.

The release stated that the bags containing mostly 100-dollar notes were found under a bed in the bedroom. The man and woman could not give a satisfactory account of the money found, police said.

Both suspects were arrested and taken to the Fyzabad Police Station along with the narcotics and bags of money.

Sgt Brisbane, PC Harris and WPC Rangoo of the Financial Investigations Branch (FIB) counted the seized cash, which amounted to $1,055,100.

The exercise was coordinated by Snr Supt Remy, Supt Cumberbatch, and supervised by ASP Nanan, Insp Prescott, Sgt. Rollocks, Sgt Boodlal, and included PC Sahadeo, officers of the South Western Division Gang Unit, South Western Division Task Force and the Siparia Criminal Investigations Department.

  1. There’s no way less than 1lb of compressed brick weed and two jars of cannabis can amount to $1m worth of cannabis. No way whatsoever. If that’s the case every block dealer in Trinidad is rich af.
