ONE man is dead following an alleged shootout with police in Mafeking, Mayaro.
Reports are that around 10 am on Wednesday, police officers attached to the Eastern Division were conducting searches when three men believed to be drug dealers ran into a forested area behind an abandoned house at Branch Trace.
While two suspects escaped, one was shot dead by the officers. He was allegedly found with a gun in his possession.
The suspect’s identity is yet to be released.
Police also found a rental receipt for a Nissan Almera which was found before the shootout, abandoned at Nurse Street in Mayaro.
