A FIRE broke out on the MV Cabo Star on Wednesday night.
In a media release early Thursday morning, the Port Authority of Trinidad and Tobago confirmed the incident after the vessel left the Scarborough port around 11.23 pm.
As a result, operations are disrupted from Thursday until further notice.
According to the authority, a fire originated in the engine room and was isolated and extinguished by the crew in accordance with vessel emergency protocols.
No injuries were reported on board the vessel and all passengers and crews would have been evacuated when it was safe to do so, the release stated.
The Port Authority stated, “The extent of the damage is yet to be ascertained and will be the subject of a thorough investigation.”
The Cabo Star was commissioned into service on July 24, 2017. It is a conventional roll-on/roll-off vessel designated to transport cargo between the islands.
The vessel was built in 1988 and is approximately 158m in length with a draft of 7.3m. and can accommodate 130 passengers (crew included) and 300 vehicles, based on information from the Trinidad and Tobago Inter-Island Transportation Company Ltd.
